Founded by the late Charles F. Chapman and the late Glen D. Castle, the Chapman School has trained over 17,000 students since opening its doors in 1971. Since its inception, the School has grown from a single vessel to a modern campus of classrooms, labs, dormitories, and large training fleet - both Power and Sail. The Chapman School campus encompasses 8 waterfront acres in South Florida, located just minutes by water from both the Intercoastal Waterway (ICW) and the Atlantic Ocean. The Schools location of less than 90 nautical miles from the Bahamas also allows convenient access to some of the best cruising waters in the Caribbean for our Offshore Training Programs. The School continues to focus on its mission of providing the highest quality boating education in a \"Learn at the Helm\" approach for both the novice and experienced, professional and recreational boater.

I am Capt Ron. I have made 4 trips to Chapman over the past 2 years. I am a blue water long distance sailor and came to Chapman to enhance my knowledge and skills. I started with Capt license, then BSt traing, PMT course, Celestial Navigation and several endorsements to my license. The intructors are great and make the learning process fun. The school has many different types of boats to build ones operating skills. Being a non-profit organization keeps the price of learning down plus onsite affordable housing is unique to the school. I know of no other mariner school like it. I highly recommend this for young and old.

I'm currently taking there PMT course and I have learned allot in this class. I would recemend any one to take classes at chapmans who want to get in the marine business or who just want to learn recreational boating, I also have done all the youth classes and I think they were great and very informational. I think it is great for young kids, and gives the something fun to do for the summer or to build a futur career.

To be honest, it's been several years since I was a student at Chapman's. But I still have really great memories of the experience. I took a beginning sailing course to get the ASA 101 certification. The Chapman campus is really quaint and cozy and I enjoyed the mornings of classroom instruction in the little class bungalows. In the afternoons, we took out a 28 foot sailboat. Chapman's is located right on the Manatee Pocket. Each student got lots of practice maneuvering under power in tight quarters. We all took turns practicing basic points of sail, tacks and jibes, sail trim etc. both in the Pocket and out on the St. Lucie and Indian Rivers. I learned a ton during the class and, even more importantly, I had a great time. I don't know if the instructor I had at the time still teaches at Chapman, but it's a great facility and I recommend it highly.
